Racing pigeons tips

Here’s a collection of short but very precious tips. The list will be updated often and it is open, feel free to contribute!

1. Sick birds will never take a bath.

2. Ad Schaerlaeckens: During the racing season pigeons must be vital. They must fly, fight or be IN the loft but never sit still ON the loft. That means no condition.

3. Willem Mulder: It is sensible after a hard and a hot race to put a high quality electrolyte in the drinking water.

4. Willem Mulder: It is very sensible to give electrolytes for 2 days before basketing. This in order to hold the moisture in the birds body for a longer period of time while racing. There will be no problem with thirst if the bird is given pure water on shipping day.

5. Willem Mulder: It is advisable to feed a fat rich diet when the races are hot and heavy. It is also advisable to decrease the amount of legumes at the same time.

6. Willem Mulder: Feeding peeled rice is worthwhile two days before shipping.

7. Willem Mulder: The need for minerals and trace minerals cannot be entirely provided using electrolytes. The amounts are far to small. Mineral mixes and grit cannot be replaced.
