About dosages and ambiguity
I have a problem with all the dosages we use when we medicate our racing pigeons. And in fact, it’s not only about medication! It’s about everything we give our pigeons.
Everything is way too vague! We feed peanuts, we give probiotics, we medicate for canker, and so on, but we aren’t sure if the dosages we use are PERFECT. I mean, we simply hope it might work!
PEANUTS: Maybe one feeds 10 peanuts per pigeon and the other one 5 peanuts. Maybe one feeds the peanuts daily for a week before a hard race, and someone else feeds only the day before the race.
PROBIOTICS: how often should we use them? There’s no receipt for this! I couldn’t even find details on the probiotics product I bought (and it’s specially created for pigeons, damn it! ). It only says to add a teaspoon per 2 liters of fresh water. They won’t tell me how often to offer probiotics. They don’t even say that we should use declorinated water for the probiotics to work!!!
CANKER: we treat in a perfect ambiguity. Some treat after every race, after the pigeons get home, one day. Other treat one day after the race. Other treat for two days at every 2 weeks. Other at every 3 weeks. Some don’t treat. Where’s the truth? Which is the best way we can fight with canker?
There is so much money in the sport… is it so hard to setup an experimental loft and study all these things at a PRO level, to get to know exactly how we should approach them? I know we can experiment on our own pigeons, maybe create two teams, and so on. But let’s face it! We aren’t scientists or vets… we’ll still be unclear in the end.
